Bring Back Anneka!
Published Saturday, Jul 23 2005, 06:00 BST | By Neil Wilkes
Luke: "I was wondering if you could tell me when ITV plan to show the new Sally Wainwright series Jane Hall's Big Bad Bus Ride. I know it was supposed to air this summer but I've not heard anything about when it will air."
Neil: ITV still aren't sure themselves.
james: "why has friday and saturday nights television on the bbc and itv got so bad? they once had things like gladiators and the genaration game, blind date and bruces price is right are any of these shows returning this year? oh and are the bbc going to be bringing out a casualty dvd or video as i know loads of people who whould buy it."
Neil: To be fair, the BBC have had some Saturday night successes of late, most notably the revivals of Doctor Who and Strictly Come Dancing (which begins a new series in October). I would agree though, that generally the situation is poor. Perhaps a controversial statement, but I would advocate the return of Noel or, better still, Ms Rice, to brighten up our Saturday evenings.
Lee Evans: "But do you know if itv are planning a kids channel like the cbbc channel also is wb planning to bring it channels to the uk?"
Neil: Yep, see our news archive for more details. I'm told that ITV4 is likely not to be a 24-hour station, making a daytime-only kids block a strong possibility, although I'm also hearing that there are some legal hoops to dive through first before a children's channel can be launched.
Rory: "Do you know for how long Paramount comedy will air 'The Wonder Years', due to music licensing the lack of a DVD makes it a hard to see show. Will they at least continue through the summer?"
Neil: Yep, on through the summer and beyond.
Robert Smith: "Do you know if and when new Sky channel Aussie Gold will be starting?"
Neil: Unfortunately it appears that this channel has vanished into thin air, so it's unlikely it will be. Fortunately, 'Down Under TV' - an unrelated station but with a similar remit - is on track to launch shortly.
Graeme Ashcroft: "Since it took well over a year for us to get the last series of Scrubs on E4, do you know if there is another season and if so when do you think it should hit our screens?"
Neil: Better than that, there are another two seasons to come. With an estimated fifty channels all now airing the show, I'd imagine it won't be too long before you see the new eps appear.
Robert: "Hi, could you tell me when Channel 4 will be airing new episodes of 'The Simpsons? The constant repeats are starting to get on my nerves and I'm sure that the ratings are not doing as well as Channel 4 thought?"
Neil: Predictably, it's actually doing quite well at 6pm but not as well as when the show was on BBC Two. Expect to see more 'new' episodes later in the year.
Stephen Patterson: "can you tell me if there going to be a new series of joey in the us and if so will five still have the rights to show it"
Neil: Yes and yes.
Luke: "When is Little Britain Series 2 going to be out on DVD. I've missed most of the episodes."
Neil: I'm guessing around October time, to coincide with the launch of the third series and just in time for the Christmas rush.
Aaron Boffin: "do you know when charmed series 3 will be out on dvd and do you know when they will be showing season 7 on channel 5 as they have shown it on living tv, :( but i don't have that :)"
Neil: Season 3 is out on DVD in the UK on October 3. The seventh season kicks off on Five, I'm reliably informed, on Saturday, September 10.
Beverley: "I have watched the trailer for lost, and have thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait for the show to begin, i absolutely love the music you have put with the trailer, could you tell me who it is buy and its title, am ripping my hair out trying to find out"
Neil: 'Numb' by Portishead. And sure, I'll take credit for it.
Jane Porter: "Is the princes of malibu going to be shown over here? I saw an episode while I was on holiday last week - it's ace!"
Neil: I beg to differ, Jane. This has to be one of the most contrived 'fly-on-the-wall' shows ever in the history of television (and I watch thousands of hours of reality programming from all over the world each year). Think a male version of The Simple Life crossed with Viva La Bam and including the performance skills of actors from any US soap opera. It's so patently staged that it will make you want to drown little kittens. As for a UK airing, I wouldn't be surprised if Channel 4 pick it up.
Rob: "How well did the season finale ('Grave Danger') of CSI do for Five when it aired? And have the ratings of the entire season proved good for Five?"
Neil: 3.6 million and a peak of 3.9 million, with a 17.8% share (the show's best ever share). The entire CSI franchise continues to be a big ratings winner for Five.
Mark: "Can you tell me when the next Doctor Who starts filming?"
Neil: Filming of the Christmas special and the second series will begin this week, taking place mostly in Cardiff. As for series two, expect to see it on screen from March.
I'll be back with a big beautiful bumper edition next Saturday... keep the queries coming!
