Introducing... your next obsession
Published Saturday, Dec 3 2005, 06:00 GMT | By Neil Wilkes
So of course, you're hooked on Nip/Tuck, Lost and Veronica Mars. Well, prepare to brace yourselves for a new obsession - Prison Break.
One of the hottest US shows of the new season is finally coming to UK shores. In this week's Tube Talk, we have the all-important premiere date, as well as the latest on new 24, CSI and the fate of Threshold.
Matthew: "BBC2 showed star trek NG and Voyager a couple of years ago - are they planning on showing it ever again? (Do they own the rights any more?) And do you know if they will ever make any more Voyager episodes? (even though they did get home)"
Neil: No to the first question, but yes to the second. In fact, try tonight (Saturday), 7.05pm on Five. Now how's that for service?
Nicholas: "Can you tell me when this proposed Buffy Animated TV Series will start in the UK? Or even if there are any plans for it to? And also, in America, have they found out who the carver in Nip/Tuck is yet?"
Neil: Regarding the animated Buffy, they couldn't even find a taker for it in the US. As for Nip/Tuck, no they haven't (only four episodes ahead, by the way). But am I alone in noticing the (surely uncoincidental) similarity between the Carver - with mask - and Sean/Christian's son Matt?
Andrew: "The new episodes of the Osbournes which have been shown during this year on Channel 4 have been shown at ridiculously late times. Why? Also, minus the final few episodes they are showing in the next few weeks, the only episode that Channel 4 has failed to show so far is "The Osbourne Family Christmas Special". However, there has not been a Christmas since they got to this episode, so do you know if they will show it this Christmas?"
Neil: 'Ratings' is the answer to the first. The Xmas special is not in the C4 schedules but it will be airing on good old MTV, Christmas Day at 9pm.
James: "I wonder if you know if E! Channel will be airing the new show with Lisa Loeb (#1 Single) in the UK? I know it goes out in January in the US, but can't see anything about whether it'll make the UK channel?"
Neil: It's not in the January schedule, but my guess is that they probably will take it.
Darren Goodall: "Threshold (CBS/SKY), Surface (NBC/ITV), Invasion (ABC/CH4,E4) - I've been watching these three shows with interest. Surface is probably the best although Threshold probably started better (a shame they blew up most of the show's budget by sinking the boat?!!). I know CBS has recently moved Threshold from Fridays to Tuesdays during sweeps week and its first week's ratings were down, so it's not looking good. When will we know the good or bad news if there's a second season or if its been cancelled?"
Neil: Threshold is now dead as far as CBS is concerned. It's doing fairly well for Sky One though, and they'll be airing the full thirteen.
Mike Stamp: "I bet you're probably bored of questions regarding EVERWOOD by now, but do you know when EVERWOOD series 1 will be out on dvd?"
Neil: Well, currently there is no EVERWOOD release planned over here but there could always be a rethink of that based on its ITV1 exposure. Season one is out in the US though - you can get it fairly cheap on import.
Madfor24: "Hey Neil, can you help me out? I'm planning a meet for fans of the show 24 and thought it would be a great idea to tie in the new season with the meet. My question is do you know when the new season five of 24 will air on Sky One?"
Neil: It's Feburary, most likely the 5th. Hope the meet goes well!
Jason: "I was wondering if you could tell me if and when channel 4 are going to repeat madonna's "I'm going to tell you a secret", as I missed it on Thursday night."
Neil: Next Saturday (10th) at 10.35pm on E4. No repeat window on C4 at present.
Sarah: "When will we see series 6 of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation?"
Neil: Tuesday, January 31 at 9pm on Five. The new season of NY begins the following Saturday, February 4, at 9pm.
John K: "Can you advise what are the best shows to look out for next year?"
Neil: I think I can manage that, yes. There are a plethora of new shows starting in the new year so look out for a roundup and a rundown of all of them in a special edition of Tube Talk over the holiday period.
And finally...
Some more premiere dates to note in the diary:
House season two begins on Five on Thursday, January 19 at 10pm
Season 12 of Law and Order will premiere on Friday, January 6 on Five. Criminal Intent follows on Saturday, February 4 at 10pm
Axed "never-ending" reality show Forever Eden (more here), simiar to Paradise Hotel, will finally air in its entirety. The series - dropped by FOX after seven eps - airs on Trouble, Monday-Thursday at 10.55pm from Tuesday, January 3
As for Prison Break, I'm told that the date could still change yet but it's likely to air on Five every Tuesday at 10pm (with CSI as a lead-in) from January 24
More again next Saturday!
