This Week's Must-See TV: 5 Shows You Shouldn't Miss

Read on to find out what's worth a look over the next seven days...
Outnumbered: Friday at 9pm on BBC One
The Brockman family is back! Yes, prepare to welcome Jake, Ben and Karen back into your life for more semi-improvised fun. When it's good, Outnumbered is excellent. Perhaps it's past its best days - the kids are old enough to be a bit more self-aware, now - but we should savour this show while it lasts. After all, Ramona Marquez as Karen is always incredible. In tonight's episode (which features a guest appearance from John Sessions), it's time to go to Uncle Bob's funeral. Because nothing could go wrong there...

Treme: Friday at 10.15pm on Sky Atlantic
The first season of Treme got mixed reviews, but it really rewarded the viewers who stuck with it. Those devotees will be pleased to hear that it's back for its second season this week. It's wonderful to be able to immerse yourself in the wonderful world of New Orleans, so sit back and let everything unfold in front of you. In this premiere, Janette's trying to make things work in New York, Toni's recovering from last season's shocker, and LaDonna's still getting pressured to move to Baton Rouge - as well as much, much more. Beautiful. We should also pause to remember cast member Michael Showers, who was sadly found dead this week.

Comedy Showcase - Chickens: Friday at 10.30pm on Channel 4
If you're still smarting from the end of the The Inbetweeners, then you'll be heartened to hear that Simon Bird and Joe Thomas have teamed up with their comedian pal Jonny Sweet to co-write and star in a new comedy one-off. Chickens follows three young men who remain at home during the First World War and struggle to maintain the rest of the local lady-folk. Alright, so it sounds a little like The Inbetweeners 1914 but is there anything so wrong with that? Here's hoping that this Comedy Showcase will lead to a full series!
Doctor Who: Saturday at 7pm on BBC One
We've only got six episodes of Doctor Who in this second half of the series, so make the most of them! Actor, comedian, writer and all-round legend Mark Gatiss returns to script this week's instalment 'Night Terrors', in which The Doctor, Amy and Rory are sucked into a miniature world alongside concerned father Alex (Ashes to Ashes star Danny Mays) and encounter the terrifying Peg Dolls. A creepy treat for all the family!

Appropriate Adult: Sunday at 9pm on ITV1
If you've recently enjoyed Dominic West's performance as the suave Hector Madden on BBC Two's The Hour, then you may be in for a shock this weekend. The former star of The Wire is playing the role of serial killer Fred West in ITV's controversial new drama Appropriate Adult. The film stars Emily Watson as Janet Leach, a voluntary worker who is drawn into West's world. This dark two-parter has a top-flight cast, but it'll be interesting to see if it can defy the critics and the cynics, or if it's doomed to be swallowed up by its controversial subject matter.
