There's only one question for telly watchers this week - are you a Spooks loyalist or a Downton Abbey fanatic? The BBC and ITV are pitting the two blockbuster shows against each other next Sunday night, so will you choose spy thrills or war-time drama?

In addition to the five fine shows we've picked out below, Waking the Dead fans might also want to keep an eye out for new spinoff The Body Farm, which sees Tara Fitzgerald reprise her role as Eve Lockhart. Check out our top TV choices for the next seven days below!

Awkward: Tuesday at 10pm on MTV
Did you catch Awkward last week? If not - hurry up! If you're quick, you should be able to see a repeat (it's on tonight at 11pm) or grab it online. It's definitely worth seeking out - this may be an MTV teen comedy, but it's actually got some bite to it. Ashley Rickards absolutely shines as our heroine Jenna Hamilton (even if she's far too attractive to be a credible outcast) and there are some great lines. Awkward isn't perfect - it can be a bit try-hard and some of the humour is slightly grating at times. But it's snappy, a truly enjoyable watch, and definitely one I'll be sticking with.

True Blood: Tuesday at 11.05pm on Channel 4
It's been a while since we spent time in Bon Temps, but if you're missing Merlotte's, don't worry - season three of True Blood is starting its terrestrial airing this week! Yes, it's time for more hijinks and nudity with Sookie and the gang. If you cast your mind back to season two, you'll remember that Bill got snatched away - but where has he gone? Sookie will be quite keen to find that out too, so prepare for a rollercoaster season of supernatural astonishment. True Blood can be inconsistent and there are low points in the third season, but there's always something to enjoy in its campy craziness.

Torchwood: Thursday at 9pm on BBC One
It's been a tumultuous series of Torchwood with fans and critics alike divided over the merits of Miracle Day. It's difficult to deny that the nine episodes leading up to this finale have been something of a mixed bag. But whatever your thoughts on the show so far, episode ten - 'The Blood Line' - certainly pushes the right buttons. It's fun and emotional, with some great shocks and plot twists. The future of Torchwood appears to be up in the air but we personally hope that the series returns - Miracle Day has been somewhat uneven, but we think Jack, Gwen and the new recruits deserve another go-around.

Spooks: Sunday at 9pm on BBC One
It's been over nine years since we first set off on an intense, no-holds-barred journey with MI5's best and brightest, and with six final episodes, Spooks is coming to an end. In the first instalment, the legendary Harry (Peter Firth) returns to the Grid in the aftermath of Lucas's betrayal, but his past soon comes back to haunt him when a former rival shows up, keen on instigating a strategic partnership between Russia and the United Kingdom. Cast members have come and gone on Spooks, but Harry has always been the one constant, and this final series promises to give the stoic spy chief the send-off he deserves. One niggle though - is a cosy Sunday night slot really the right place for Spooks?

Downton Abbey: Sunday at 9pm on ITV1
In many ways, Downton Abbey was the surprise hit of 2010. We all knew the show had a strong pedigree, but practically no-one expected the period drama to attract audiences of almost 11m. As the second eight-part run kicks off, it's November 1916 and the Great War is in full swing, with the family and servants preparing for a charity concert to raise funds for injured soldiers. You can read our full thoughts on the first episode here, but fans of last year's series won't be disappointed - there's romance, humour and some great new cast additions!
