It's another fabulous week of television, which gives the Tube Talk team a bit of a headache. How on Earth do we whittle it down to just five shows? Well, we're going to cheat, that's how. First of all, we insist that you tune in to Comedy Central's brand new show Threesome on Monday (find out why here).

And we must also recommend highly BBC Four's fabulous Holy Flying Circus, about the release of the Monty Python classic The Life of Brian. You can catch that on Wednesday at 9pm. Oh, and on Wednesday at 8pm check out the new season of Gossip Girl on ITV2 - it's a lot of fun (and, more importantly, who's pregnant?)

Now that we've got our shameless cheating out of the way, you can read on to find out which shows have won their place in our top five list!

The Sarah Jane Adventures: Tuesday at 5.15pm on CBBC
We've often recommended that you tune into Doctor Who in this weekly feature, but this is the first time we've made its junior counterpart The Sarah Jane Adventures one of our five picks. But there's a reason for that - this is the final episode, filmed before star Elisabeth Sladen's tragic death. So why not watch and pay tribute to Lis one last time? Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith, you'll be missed...

Alphas: Tuesday at 10pm on 5*
Alright, so Alphas is probably nonsense. The show follows five people with special abilities, 'Alphas', who club together to stop other Alphas from committing crimes. Okay, so it's almost certainly nonsense. But it gathered good buzz in the States and stars the fantastic David Strathairn as the professor leading our crime-fighting superheroes in their quest. Really, it looks like it will be a rollicking good watch with a lot of fun moments. It's definitely worth giving it a go, anyway (and it's been renewed for a second season, so you don't need to worry about that).

The Walking Dead: Friday at 10pm on FX
If you didn't catch this show last year, then you missed out on a treat - The Walking Dead was bold, striking and often unbearably tense, with a superb set of performances from the lead cast. Our only complaint - at just six episodes, the first season was far, far too short. Thankfully the zombie thriller is back off hiatus and hits UK screens less than a week after its US premiere. In this first episode, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the other survivors are desperate to escape Atlanta, but tragedy (and a zombie horde) looms...

Derren Brown: The Assassin: Friday at 9pm on Channel 4
Derren Brown might be a bit of a Marmite figure, but he's always intriguing. His brand new series of "experiments" looks like it will be no exception - could he reach the heights of some of his previous specials? The Assassin certainly has an enticing concept - Derren's going to see just how malleable we are by hypnotising a member of the public and persuading them to assassinate a celebrity in public. Yikes! Derren's shows are always watchable, tense and downright entertaining, so sit back (or on the edge of your seat) and enjoy.

Pete Versus Life: Friday at 10pm on Channel 4
But if you're not a fan of zombies and gore, how about a little comedy instead? Rafe Spall stars in the second series of this oddball sitcom, which follows Pete, a socially awkward journalist who finds his life narrated by a pair of sports commentators. It's fun, if a little predictable - basically perfect Friday night fodder. Keep your eyes peeled for an interview with Rafe about the new series on Digital Spy next week!
