April's TV Box Sets: 'Being Human', 'Spartacus', '30 Rock'

By and Morgan Jeffery
April showers. Some people think they're worth singing about. We do not. And personally we feel the best way to avoid getting caught in one is to just not go out at all, stay curled up in a onesie or loungewear of your choice, and stick on a nice TV box set.

We've picked out five of our favourite releases from the next month for your consideration. Read on below for all the details...

Touch - The Complete Season One (Available Now)
Starring: Kiefer Sutherland, David Mazouz, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Danny Glover
Rated: 12
Format: DVD

Season two of Kiefer Sutherland's drama Touch premiered on Sky1 last night, so now seems like the perfect time to pick up the first run of episodes from the former 24 star and Heroes creator Tim Kring.

Across these 13 episodes - spread over a three-disc set - Martin Bohm (Kiefer Sutherland) learns from his very special son Jake (David Mazouz) to see the world in a whole new way and makes a series of connections that will change his life forever, discovering that we are all connected in the most unexpected of ways...

Being Human - The Complete Fifth Series (April 8)
Starring: Damien Molony, Michael Socha, Kate Bracken, Steven Robertson
Rated: 15
Format: DVD, Blu-ray

We're still gutted that BBC Three's awesome paranormal drama Being Human drew to a close last month, but at least from April 8 we'll be able to relive the best of times and the worst of times with George, Mitchell, Annie, Tom, Hal and Alex...

The final series of Being Human hits shelves in both DVD and Blu-ray formats - and amongst the special features is a special extra scene which promises to clear up that ambiguous ending! Plus, all five series are available to purchase together as part of an epic 'Complete Collection' - the perfect gift for either a hardcore fan or a Being Human newbie.

30 Rock - Season Six (April 15)
Starring: Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer
Rated: 15
Format: DVD

Listen up, fives - the penultimate season of 30 Rock finally makes its way onto DVD this month, boasting the usual amount of dysfunction from Tina Fey's Liz Lemon and the other folks behind the scenes of TGS.

Highlights this season include Liz finally finding love with James Marsden's wide-eyed hot dog vendor, Jenna gaining notoriety as a vicious judge on a kids' talent contest and Jack attempting to rescue Avery (Elizabeth Banks) from North Korea while repressing awkward feelings for her mother (Mary Steenburgen). Plus there's the second live episode to enjoy and a shedload of celebrity cameos from the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Jon Hamm, Kim Kardashian and Kelsey Grammer.

Our Girl (April 29)
Starring: Lacey Turner
Rated: 15
Format: DVD

DS darling Lacey Turner turned plenty of heads when Our Girl aired on the BBC last month. The former EastEnders star is utterly compelling as 18-year-old drifter Molly Dawes, whose life changes forever when she drunkenly stoops in the doorway of an Army Recruitment Office.

Over 90 minutes, Molly embarks upon an emotional and challenging journey starting at a Newham nail salon and ending at the frontline in Afghanistan as she rises from a nobody to a hero. There's talk of Our Girl being picked up to a full series, so make sure you grab the special now and avoid having to play catch-up.

Spartacus: War of the Damned (April 29)
Starring: Liam McIntyre, Manu Bennett, Dustin Clare, Todd Lasance
Rated: 18
Format: DVD, Blu-ray

Gloriously gory Starz drama Spartacus comes to a brutal end - our Thracian hero has escaped the Blood and Sand of the arena, he's had his Vengeance and now the War of the Damned is about to reach its conclusion...

You'll be able to bid a final farewell to Liam McIntyre's grizzled gladiator later this month in both DVD and Blu-ray formats - we've got our fingers crossed now for a Julius Caesar spinoff, but whatever happens next, Spartacus has taken us on one hell of a ride!
