This is the story of how I died.

Have you seen the news? Billie Piper has only gone and signed a deal to return to Doctor Who next year!

The savvy among you will realise that this means the Doc will now have THREE assistants to contend with in series four, with Catherine Tate on board for the full series and Freema Agyeman returning half-way through the run.

But that's not before he finds another companion - albeit a temporary one - in the form of Kylie Minogue:

In this year's Christmas special, the pop princess plays Astrid Peth ('Astrid' is an anagram of 'Tardis', 'peth' is Welsh for 'part'....), a waitress onboard the Titanic. As we saw at the end of series three, the doomed ship actually crashed into the Tardis:

More gossip on the Christmas special in the coming weeks!

To end with today, here's another sneak peek at the Extras Christmas special, with commentary from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant:

shouldn't that be FOUR companions? It was reported on here that John Barrowman said he would appear as Captain Jack sometime during series 4.

I couldn't be more excited for the Doctor Who Christmas special even if I tried!

I've seen this "'peth' is Welsh for 'part'" thing before, and I only conclude that RTD can't speak Welsh! I'd translate it primarily as "thing", but it has a host of meanings (NOT including "part") which can be seen on the GPC (the Welsh equivalent of the OED) here: http://www.cymru.ac.uk/geiriadur/gpc_pdfs.htm#DANGOSEIRIAU - see the pdf file GPC0018-08.pdf which defines that part of the alphabet!

Huuuge spoiler there don't you think?! The die hard fans won't like you doing that!

Kylie is the best thing to happen to Doctor Who in years! Neil, do you think she might sing in this episode?

Kylie IS the tardis?? Huh? Something tells me I'll have to record this one as I'll be too full of food and wine on Xmas day to watch it properly!
