I love watching "Life On Mars"! I look forward to it every week. I hope it doesn't get cancelled....I voted for it on the People's Choice Awards. I think Jason O'Mara is fine!
Simi, Australia on June 20th, 2008
It doesn't look as tragic as I thought it would but it still doesn't have any of the charm and depth that the real "Life on Mars' has. It just looks like another summer filler comedy to me. You just can't have 'Life on Mars' without John Simm and Philip Glenister. Why make over something that's perfect just the way it is. I'm sure Americans are fully capable of understanding and appreciating the original (British) version. It all just annoys me.
Tim Bishop, Plymouth, UK on June 19th, 2008
Yes......... That is very ABC...... Never wanted to see an american version of this, and this has proved why, shamew on you BBC
Richard, Australia on June 19th, 2008
why remake it why not use the money to shoot more of eps of the original show it seems unfinished the web site says its finished but it is still very much up in the air . give me more of the real Sam Tyler and his life on mars
Faye, Newport, South Wales, UK on June 18th, 2008
OMG so close to the original series. goose bump time. I hope we get to see it in the UK.
Ben, Leicester on May 24th, 2008
Thought the original was awful.
Dawn, London on May 22nd, 2008
Why not just say this particular show looks crap? Why does everyone have to pretend all of a sudden that they never watch American shows? This whole site is full of people talking about original American programming and if you took all the US imports off of British telly, it would be very boring. Remember, imitation is the highest form of flattery---even if it is a sad impression.
Ollie, London on May 21st, 2008
To be honest, I can't see the total point in the remake, they showed the UK version on BBC America and they loved it, be happy with that. In regards to the USA remake, it does look a little like a different show, if the names of the characters were different, this could be assumed as a different show. It will be quite cool to see the USA style policeing in the 70's, because it is different to the UK but this is very reminiscent of old school USA police shows, as we know that happened in the UK... I don't think the new Gene Hunt has the same wit and charm as Glenister does... I think we will have to sit and wait how this all pans out!
Geri, Australia on May 21st, 2008
i love the real one and this one just doesnt look good at all i mean it is a show that really can not be copied i think there is onlt one life on mars ad it isnt the new look us one that is for sure
Phyllis, Delaware, USA on May 21st, 2008
I loved the original and see no reason for a remake. The accents weren't that heavy, and even if I didn't always get the reference points, I always understood the meaning behind them. I like the actors chosen for the US version, but I doubt I'll be watching.
Greg on May 20th, 2008
What pish is this??
Jamie, UK on May 20th, 2008
I scoffed at the idea of The Office US, and it wasn't anything like the 'real' Office. However, it was interesting and entertaining, and I have actually enjoyed it in and of itself. Life on Mars - well, I'll not expect much from it, but I hope to be surprised ;)
Andy on May 20th, 2008
Usually, US programmes have better production values than UK programs, but that looks surprisingly poorly made.
Andy, Doncaster on May 20th, 2008
think ill give it a miss!!! its an insult to both the ORIGINAL sam and the gene geneie!!!
Jen, Liverpool on May 20th, 2008
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah......you crazy americans...so so crazzzzzzzzzy!!!!!!
Beth, Seattle, Germany on May 20th, 2008
This remake won't work. The american team have missed the point!!! Sam is Jean's opposite, not his modern counterpart. The british Sam is small, a bit of a geek and knows lots technical things but his american copy is a 1972 Jeans' dream co-worker...This doesn't leave much room for comparisons and that was the fun part!!!
Gillian, Dundee on May 20th, 2008
Will definately not be watching this if it is released here!!!!!!!! Nothing can beat the original and it'll just to be too strange to watch any other actors play Sam Tyler & Gene Hunt!!
Mark, UK on May 20th, 2008
You bunch of moning old gits. Geez lighten up. It's not aimed at people in the UK it's aimed at people in the USA where the majority of people wouldnt have ever seen it. It's not meant to be aimed at the UK population. The UK and the US always rip off each others programmes/games shows etc. I think it looks good and I would watch it and buy the DVD box set etc just as I did the UK version. I do agree though, he could have had a different name from Sam Tyler.
JD on May 20th, 2008
Really pointless...
Kate, London on May 20th, 2008
Life and Mars and a funky bassline do not mix.
Richard, Manchester on May 20th, 2008
they did show life on Mars in the USA on BBC America but ABC could never show it on broadcast given the heavy UK accents and the language and scenes that would never get past the FCC for broadcast network tv while it was ok on BBC America given it a cable channel.
Tammy, Ireland on May 20th, 2008
They cast 2 irish actors in a remake of a hit UK series for the US
Rosa on May 20th, 2008
What a load of cheese. The music was so lame. and the caption things. A total embarrassment to the original show.
Matt, Middlesbrough on May 20th, 2008
I don't know about this. The trailer is good and its weird to see a great programme being remade for an american audience. IMHO I think I'd actually give this a try. Colm Meaney is a great actor and is a great choice for Gene Hunt. Besides how many programmes seen here have been remade from other countries hit programmes? Bring it on!
Sophia, Lincolnshire on May 20th, 2008
i thought it was a spoof at first! t looks absolutely naff.
Maddy, St Andrews, Scotland on May 20th, 2008
It looks like an absolute spoof -- I thought some kid had made it in his basement as a joke!! And why bother getting Irish actors if they're going to do American accents?? They should have never sold the plot, my god... I just can't believe they could take something so fabulous and make it so utterly unwatchable! Matthew Graham should be ashamed of himself for selling it, and I hope this dies a quick death before anyone actually gets a chance to see it -- I'd hate to think of someone actually thinking that THAT was Life On Mars.... What scares me is they probably picked the best bits out!!!!!
Eunice on May 20th, 2008
What's the point of remaking an already brilliant show. Just because it wasn't American. And Phillip Glenister will always be the Gene Hunt and John Simm Sam Tyler..
Ravvie on May 20th, 2008
This is not, and will never be Life on Mars.
Shaun, Manchester on May 20th, 2008
Don't think it looks that good to be honest. It looks like they've cut out the Bowie references too which makes keeping the title as Life On Mars a little bewildering
James Benn on May 20th, 2008
I agree this re-make looks awful, but I can understand why they felt they had to Americanise, the element of nostalgia would have been lost of an American audience. So they gave it a try, but based on a trailer it looks like it's fallen far short of the original vision....
Gabriel, UK on May 19th, 2008
It just doesn't look right at all, they over act to much and there is no imagination its just a carbon copy, whereas they should have used their idea and made their own story around it. Honestly though to me just watching that trailer it looks like a massive p*** take, like something someone would make on youtube but with alot of money in it.
Phil, Wales on May 19th, 2008
I know its an american remake but isnt the main characters played by irish guys hahaha....still gotta admit that I loved the british version and I dont really want to rubbish something till i see it .....so I may give this one a miss until it turns up on UK Living..........
Thompson, Coventry on May 19th, 2008
just watched the trailer and oh dear. hope it gets cancelled. put it that way
Daz, UK on May 19th, 2008
Is the USA so completely bereft of ideas that they have to steal and remake everything, from Japanese horror to Cult British TV? This crap will fall flat on it's proverbial face, as have so many remakes before it. For the love of sanity America, come up with something original, that isn't plagiarised from film and TV industries from every country bar your own. Quit taking original material, and turning out second rate tat. It's little more than buying a pair of counterfeit jeans, or a dodgy Rolex. Cheap, nasty imitations of the real deal, watered down and "Americanized" to be spoon-fed to the masses.
the-tick, London on May 19th, 2008
That just looks awful, why remake it SO badly
Mick, UK on May 19th, 2008
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Trailers are often misleading but only in that they can make tosh look good. This looks tosh and this is the highlights. Hmmmm.
Ciaran Doran, County Durham on May 19th, 2008
when i found out they were gonna be doing a US version of life on mars i was dead excited but seeing that preview, omg it sucked big time, granted people are gonna have high expectations because john simm and phillip gleinster made gene and sam icons butwatching that clip they totally wrecked it i mean the guy who plays sam sounds annoying and the guy who plays gene weird casting but i will wait til i see the 1st episode before i fully judge it but so far it looks rubbish.
Christopher, Colchester on May 19th, 2008
Weird... From the look of it, the US pilot is copying the UK pilot virtually verbatim, with the exception of the setting (1972 LA) and accents. Seeing the future kidnapper/murderer as a child? Its been done. Why they chose not to just air the UK series is a mystery. I'll still probably watch it though.
Sarah, Kent on May 19th, 2008
That looks AWFUL, big fake and what is it with the cheesy music? It's coming over as a spoof of the original - just goes to show you can't recreate magic like that. They should have done what the creators of Life on Mars did with Ashes to Ashes, create a different show based on the same premise. There is only ONE Gene Hunt.
