Take a look at the US version of 'Life On Mars'

Published Monday, May 19 2008, 14:51 BST | By Neil Wilkes | 51 comments
Here's the first look at the US take on Life On Mars, due to air across the pond this Autumn.

Irish actors Jason O'Mara (In Justice) and Colm Meaney (Star Trek) will replace John Simm and Phil Glenister in the roles of Sam Tyler and Gene Hunt respectively. The US series will be set one year earlier, in 1972, while Manchester has been replaced by sunny Los Angeles.

I love watching "Life On Mars"! I look forward to it every week. I hope it doesn't get cancelled....I voted for it on the People's Choice Awards. I think Jason O'Mara is fine!

It doesn't look as tragic as I thought it would but it still doesn't have any of the charm and depth that the real "Life on Mars' has. It just looks like another summer filler comedy to me. You just can't have 'Life on Mars' without John Simm and Philip Glenister. Why make over something that's perfect just the way it is. I'm sure Americans are fully capable of understanding and appreciating the original (British) version. It all just annoys me.

Yes......... That is very ABC...... Never wanted to see an american version of this, and this has proved why, shamew on you BBC

why remake it why not use the money to shoot more of eps of the original show it seems unfinished the web site says its finished but it is still very much up in the air . give me more of the real Sam Tyler and his life on mars

OMG so close to the original series. goose bump time. I hope we get to see it in the UK.

Thought the original was awful.

Why not just say this particular show looks crap? Why does everyone have to pretend all of a sudden that they never watch American shows? This whole site is full of people talking about original American programming and if you took all the US imports off of British telly, it would be very boring. Remember, imitation is the highest form of flattery---even if it is a sad impression.

To be honest, I can't see the total point in the remake, they showed the UK version on BBC America and they loved it, be happy with that. In regards to the USA remake, it does look a little like a different show, if the names of the characters were different, this could be assumed as a different show. It will be quite cool to see the USA style policeing in the 70's, because it is different to the UK but this is very reminiscent of old school USA police shows, as we know that happened in the UK... I don't think the new Gene Hunt has the same wit and charm as Glenister does... I think we will have to sit and wait how this all pans out!

i love the real one and this one just doesnt look good at all i mean it is a show that really can not be copied i think there is onlt one life on mars ad it isnt the new look us one that is for sure

I loved the original and see no reason for a remake. The accents weren't that heavy, and even if I didn't always get the reference points, I always understood the meaning behind them. I like the actors chosen for the US version, but I doubt I'll be watching.

What pish is this??

I scoffed at the idea of The Office US, and it wasn't anything like the 'real' Office. However, it was interesting and entertaining, and I have actually enjoyed it in and of itself. Life on Mars - well, I'll not expect much from it, but I hope to be surprised ;)

Usually, US programmes have better production values than UK programs, but that looks surprisingly poorly made.
Andy, Doncaster, on May 20th, 2008
think ill give it a miss!!! its an insult to both the ORIGINAL sam and the gene geneie!!!
Jen, Liverpool, on May 20th, 2008
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah......you crazy americans...so so crazzzzzzzzzy!!!!!!
Beth, Seattle, Germany, on May 20th, 2008
This remake won't work. The american team have missed the point!!! Sam is Jean's opposite, not his modern counterpart. The british Sam is small, a bit of a geek and knows lots technical things but his american copy is a 1972 Jeans' dream co-worker...This doesn't leave much room for comparisons and that was the fun part!!!
Gillian, Dundee, on May 20th, 2008
Will definately not be watching this if it is released here!!!!!!!! Nothing can beat the original and it'll just to be too strange to watch any other actors play Sam Tyler & Gene Hunt!!
Mark, UK, on May 20th, 2008
You bunch of moning old gits. Geez lighten up. It's not aimed at people in the UK it's aimed at people in the USA where the majority of people wouldnt have ever seen it. It's not meant to be aimed at the UK population. The UK and the US always rip off each others programmes/games shows etc. I think it looks good and I would watch it and buy the DVD box set etc just as I did the UK version. I do agree though, he could have had a different name from Sam Tyler.
