David Boreanaz has claimed that the sexual tension between his and Emily Deschanel's characters on Bones is one of the show's most important assets.
Boreanaz, who plays FBI agent Seeley Booth opposite Deschanel's forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, suggested that the pair's relationship was key to the show's success.
He said: "[There's] a lot of sexual tension! I think it's needed… the conflict is there, the relationship is there. As long as it doesn't become too much bickering. It is like a marriage.
"We examine that tension in every scene. Without it you don't have any place for these characters to go. You don't get the insight that you want. The humour and the show, for me, is this relationship.
"I don't care about the procedural stuff, solving the case, the DNA. To me, it's about my relationship with her, getting through the show with her and figuring out what makes me learn and tick with her."
Boreanaz added that the show was looking to follow the Bruce Willis/Cybill Shepherd model from Moonlighting.
"If you watched Moonlighting in the past, could you remember any case? All you wanted to do was root for them to get into bed," he explained.
