America's TV news networks are gearing up for live overnight coverage as Hurricane Wilma spins toward Florida's west coast.

Mandatory evacuations have been ordered in the hurricane-weary state as Wilma, currently a category two storm, moves toward the Florida Keys. Some strengthening is anticipated before landfall.

Some local stations have started streaming their coverage online. WTVJ, WPLG and WFOR are all streaming their coverage.

So far, national coverage has emphasised the agonising wait for the storm's arrival as Floridians watched TV coverage of the destruction in Cancun where the storm sat for two days before starting its turn towards the US.
