Veteran news anchor and reporter Ted Koppel made his final broadcast on ABC's Nightline on Tuesday evening.

From Monday, November 28, the programme - long known for its single-story approach and in-depth reporting style - will be relaunched with a new anchor team, including ex-ITV reporter Martin Bashir, and a new multiple-story format.

Koppel asked fans of the show to give the new format a chance, warning that if they didn't, "the network will just put another comedy show in this time slot," adding: "Then you'll be sorry."

Reports indicate that Koppel, who spent 42 years at ABC News, is heading to HBO.
