14.2m viewers tuned in for the Hugh Laurie-starring medical drama, which was the most-watched show of the night among adults 18-49. So strong was House's performance that it handed Fox an easy victory in the 18-49 demo for the entire night.
Leading the 8pm hour among total viewers, however, was ABC's Dancing With The Stars (17.8m). NCIS averaged a respectable 13.8m viewers, while NBC placed fourth with a Heroes re-run (5m). Gilmore Girls on The CW disappointed with just 4.6m viewers overall and a 6% share among adults 18-49; given that after Top Model's performance the network knows people can find it despite numerous station flips, a season opener down more than 20% from last year's is likely to give cause for concern.
Dancing With The Stars held onto its lead for the first half of the 9pm hour, leading into the series premiere of Help Me Help You, which averaged just under 12m viewers. Also at 9, The Unit on CBS averaged 12m, while Law and Order: Criminal Intent on NBC managed 10.4m viewers. Standoff on Fox, meanwhile, averaged 8.1m viewers.
Law and Order: SVU easily led at 10pm for NBC with 14.3m viewers. In second was Boston Legal on ABC with a 10m average; Smith on CBS was third with 9.6m viewers. However, CBS edged ABC slightly in the 18-49 demographic.
