Production company Feelgood Fiction has sold the rights to its Five comedy Suburban Shootout to HBO.

US writer Michelle Ashford, who wrote and produced Boomtown, will adapt the original scripts for the US pilot.

The William Morris Agency, which was involved in selling BBC shows Life on Mars and Nighty Night to the US, brokered the Feelgood deal.

Feelgood's head of drama and comedy, Laurence Bowen, told Broadcast: "From a US TV point of view the idea was very approachable. The perfect suburban world is part of the American dream, so we had a lot of interest."

The first series of the UK version, a co-production between Five and Paramount Comedy, has already aired in the US on the Oxygen cable network. A second series is currently in pre-production.

Earlier this year, the writers of Shootout, Gary James Martin and Roger Beckett, won a commission from the CBS network for a new pilot comedy script. Guru, a sitcom about an extreme life coach, will also be made by Feelgood.
