Topping the week's leaderboard is CSI, one of only three entries by CBS in the top 10 ranker. The crime series' season 8 premiere bowed with 25.2m total viewers, compared with Grey's Anatomy's 20.9m in the same slot. However, the ABC medical drama edged CSI in adults 18-49, attracting nearly a million more viewers in the ad-friendly demographic.
As the total viewer ranker to the right shows, ABC did particularly well in premiere week, taking five of the top ten slots. Its strong performance relied on established staples Dancing with the Stars - the US version of Strictly Come Dancing continues to go from strength to strength - and Desperate Housewives, which put in a respectable 19.3m viewers. Other notables in the top ten include NBC's lone appearance with Heroes' 17m viewers, and Fox's House, which did well with 18.3m viewers.
In the demo, things look a little different. Beyond the high-flying Grey's and CSI, House posted a very respectable third in the 18-49 ranker - ahead of ABC's Desperate Housewives. NBC is chuffed with the performance of Bionic Woman; it came eighth in the demo ranker, ahead of the Grey's Anatomy spin-off Private Practice. NBC racked up three appearances in the demo ranker against CBS's single showing.
