New drama Canterbury's Law drew an unimpressive audience for its first outing in the US on Monday.

Some 7.6m people watched the show's debut, giving it one of the Fox's poorest ever premiere performances in the 8pm slot. The drama follows a female defence lawyer who is willing to bend the rules to protect justice.

With a 5% share of the 18-49 audience, Law left the network trailing ABC, CBS and NBC in the slot.

Fox picked up a little at 9pm with 8.78m viewers for drama New Amsterdam but CBS led the way with a repeat of Two and a Half Men, drawing 11.74m and 10% of 18-49s.
