Radio show host and actor Adam Carolla will be the lead presenter on NBC's version of Top Gear, it has been confirmed.
Carolla, known for making controversial statements and a love of fast cars, will host alongside stunt driver Tanner Foust and the Camry hybrid-favouring HGTV host Eric Stromer in a presenting setup designed to mirror the UK triumvirate of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
Clarkson, who will serve as an executive producer for the US version, said: "This is fantastic news - but how on earth you lot are going to do it on the wrong side of the road I've no idea."
Tod Mesirow, who has previously worked on shows such as Mythbusters and Monster Garage for Discovery, will also be an executive producer on the pilot, as will NBC's Kevin Harris, who has previously produced The Apprentice.
"This franchise is a proven winner worldwide and the hosting team of Adam, Tanner and Eric that we have brought together for the U.S. version offers a perfect match of humour, insider know-how and priceless track experience," said Craig Plestis, executive vice president for alternative programming at NBC Entertainment. "We are going to create a high-powered show that, like the original, will keep viewers in every demographic clutching the edge of their seats."
BBC Worldwide America plans to commence production on a pilot this week.
