DeGeneres missed out on the overall best talkshow award for the first time in five years, however, to relative newcomer Rachael Ray.
Former model Tyra Banks, host of America's Next Top Model, won her first Emmy with The Tyra Banks Show in the entertainment and informative category.
"I just have a message for everybody out there," said Banks, going on to reference a notorious episode of the talkshow in which she told critics to "kiss my fat ass".
"When you have a dream, there are going to so many people that tell you that you cannot do it, that you are not good enough," she said. "And I want you to tell them to kiss your dimply, flat, juicy, bootylicious, skinny, jiggly, saggy fat ass!"
In scripted categories, ABC's General Hospital won its tenth Daytime Emmy for best drama series while One Life To Live, also on ABC, took best writing and directing on a drama series.
