The 55-year-old, who rose to fame as Michael Knight in the original '80s show, told WENN that he wouldn't feature in the remake.
He said: "It's going to miss the target a little bit... It's like having Indiana Jones without Indiana Jones."
Hasselhoff agreed to cameo in the recent Knight Rider pilot, which proved a ratings hit for NBC and prompted the network to greenlight a series. However, he wasn't happy with the finished result.
"They asked me to come in and do a cameo and promote it and I said I would. But it was not what I had in mind," he said. "I didn't get a chance to see the show until the final product and it was clearly not what it could've been. It was someone else's vision."
