The Vancouver Sun reports that the popular actor died at his home in British Columbia after a "massive heart attack" on Sunday morning. He was best known for a series of military roles in cult shows, drawing on his three-year army stint in the 1960s.
Davis only began acting in the early 1980s and played Major Garland Briggs in both seasons of David Lynch's acclaimed series Twin Peaks. He also played Dana Scully's father Captain William Scully in The X-Files and most recently had a recurring role as General George Hammond in Stargate: SG-1.
He is survived by his wife of four years and a son from a previous marriage.
