Al-Jazeera comes to cable
Published Wednesday, Apr 9 2003, 14:42 BST | By James Welsh
Al-Jazeera, the Arab-language news network, has launched on cable systems in some parts of America.
A half-hour news report from the channel airs on cable systems in Cleveland, Omaha, St. Louis and Milwaukee as well as certain other cities, at 18:30 Eastern.
An agreement was reached between Al-Jazeera and SCOLA, a non-profit making organisation supplying foreign programming to cable systems and local TV stations, enabling the channel's news to air on cable. The channel itself is available on satellite.
