Mad Men, which enters a second season in the US on Sunday, was named programme of the year, best new programme and best drama. "Obviously, the message of smoking, drinking and whoring has resonated with the TCA," joked actor John Slattery, collecting the award with co-star Jon Hamm on Saturday.
Best comedy went to 30 Rock, which follows the cast and crew of a fictional Saturday Night Live-style sketch show, and Tina Fey won the individual comedy performance title for her role in the series.
The critics named John Adams as top movie, miniseries or special, and its star Paul Giamatti won the individual drama performance award.
Mad Men, 30 Rock and John Adams also led this year's Emmy nominations list, which was unveiled last week.
The Wire, which bowed out with its fifth season earlier this year, was given the Heritage Award for long-running programmes that have had a lasting cultural or social impact.
