Matt LeBlanc will be starring in a Friends spinoff in 2004, NBC have confirmed.
Talks with the star concluded successfully earlier in the week and, as a result, his character Joey Tribbiani will be back on screens after Friends finishes its run next season.
The half-hour show, to be called Joey, will air in the same 8pm Thursday slot currently occupied by Friends.
NBC President Jeff Zucker said that LeBlanc was "over the moon" about the new deal, adding that, naturally, so were they. He also confirmed that LeBlanc was the only one of the six Friends approached about a spinoff series.
Joey will be NBC's first comedy spinoff since Frasier emerged from Cheers 11 years ago.
