'American Idol 3' auditions begin
Published Monday, Aug 4 2003, 11:09 BST | By Neil Wilkes
Auditions for the third season of FOX's American Idol began yesterday.
Pasadena was the venue for the first heat of auditions, to be followed later this month by auditions in Houston (Aug 13), Atlanta (Aug 20), New York (Aug 25) and Honolulu (TBC).
"I honestly believe this is going to be the biggest season yet," host Ryan Seacrest told reporters at Saturday's Teen Choice Awards.
"The talent that doubted the credibility of American Idol, season one, season two, saw what it does for young people and saw how it can make Kelly Clarkson a real star, how it can make Ruben and Clay stars.
"Those who said to themselves, 'I'm not going to be part of a competition on television,' I think will show up to compete this time. We're expecting the creme de la creme to audition."
The third American Idol will premiere next January on FOX.
