Leon Harris is leaving Atlanta, Georgia-based CNN after twenty years with the network, and will now co-anchor the 5pm, 6pm and 11pm news broadcasts for WJLA-TV, an ABC affiliate station in Washington, D.C.
Harris said:
"Joining WJLA means working with great co-anchors and an excellent, focused news team in the world's news capital. The resources and commitment that WJLA brings to bear on news coverage are simply phenomenal. I couldn't be happier with the opportunity to work and live in the Washington area -- it has such a great sense of identity and community, and it's a wonderful place to raise a family."
The hiring of Harris is "yet one more indication" about WJLA's plans to be the "dominant TV news station" in the D.C. area, according to Robert Allbritton, Chairman and CEO of WJLA's parent company. "Leon Harris is part of THE elite corps of America's journalists," he explained.
Harris, who currently co-anchors CNN's morning news show, CNN Live Today, with Daryn Kagan, will begin co-anchoring news broadcasts on WJLA from October.
