NBC seeks 'Philanthropist' partner
Published Monday, Aug 4 2008, 10:50 BST | By Simon Reynolds
NBC is seeking an international partner to split the costs of its midseason drama The Philanthropist, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The network previously used this model for Crusoe, which was produced and distributed by the UK's Power Entertainment, and its upcoming series Merlin, a co-production with the BBC.
NBC is hoping that an international partnership will make it easier for the series to film in locations abroad.
The Philanthropist is based around a rogue billionaire who uses his wealth and power to help people regardless of the risks or costs.
David Eick (Battlestar Galactica) is steering the series, with Peter Horton on board to direct the pilot. James Purefoy (Rome) is in talks to star in the lead role.
