FNC says "Come Home Connie"
Published Thursday, Oct 9 2003, 17:48 BST | By James Welsh
The billboard wars between arch-rivals FOX News Channel and CNN have started up again, with the latest round being fought on FNC's billboard located opposite CNN Centre in Atlanta.
Plastered in big white lettering on a black background is the imperative, "Come Home Connie. CNN Needs You. Brought to you by your friends at FOX News." Connie Chung's tabloid-esque Connie Chung Tonight was axed by CNN in March, with Paula Zahn Now currently occupying the 8pm hour. Ratings for the new show, which competes with The O'Reilly Factor on FOX News, continue to remain significantly down from Chung's show.
FOX News spokeswoman, Irene Briganti, explained: "We thought this would lift the morale and bring a few smiles to the faces of the CNN staffers in Atlanta."
This latest skirmish on the billboard battlegrounds comes after CNN plastered a photo of Paula Zahn, along with the text "Real News Makes The Difference," on a billboard near FOX News' headquarters in Manhattan during February.
