Danny McBride, who stars in the comedy show as a washed-up baseball player returning to his old school to coach the students, revealed to Coming Soon that Ferrell and Anchorman director Adam McKay would both direct episodes.
He said: "This is going to be the beginning for him (Ferrell). It's going to be exciting, but him and McKay are going to tag team it. When they suggested that to him, I think a lot of people would be nervous, but working with Will, that dude has f***ing insane instincts, and he knows his s**t.
"Will would come up with ideas in the scenes, and we'd be like, 'God that's such a great way to do that' and I fully trust that he'll be able to come in and knock it out."
McBride said that the East Bound And Down team sought advice from Steve Coogan on how to create a successful TV comedy.
He commented: "His advice was to keep it small... He said, 'Keep it small, and just keep people wanting more.'"
