Time Warner Cable has signed a deal with Scientific Atlanta to provide backup digital video services while it carries out major upgrades to its servers in Manhattan.

The backup 'SciCare' solution is designed to minimise service interruptions to TWC customers in the New York City area by continuing to provide digital cable services while the main Digital Network Control System is taken out of service for upgrades.

Larry Bradner, senior VP and president of Scientific Atlanta's SciCare Broadband Services group, said:

"SciCare is constantly looking for innovative solutions that focus on reducing the cable operator's expenses while delivering opportunities to increase revenue. This recovery solution embodies our philosophy for assisting the MSO and helps to address a service issue that is critical to the operator's success."
