Dawson's Creek alumnus Maggie Friedman will script the series, which will loosely follow George Miller's 1987 supernatural film.
Based on John Updike's novel, the movie starred Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer as single women who turn to witchcraft. They conjure up the mysterious Daryl Van Horne (Jack Nicholson), who seduces all three of them.
Networks have long tried to launch a TV series based on the story, with Carlton Cuse and Jeffrey Boam writing a 1992 pilot for Warner Bros. Ten years later, Fox put a different spin on the idea by focusing on the sons of the original witches (played by Lori Loughlin, Marcia Cross and Kelly Rutherford).
The Witches Of Eastwick also became a musical, debuting in the West End in 2000 with Ian McShane as Daryl Van Horne.
