Channel 4's 'IT Crowd' heads to US

US cable channel IFC has picked up the rights to Channel 4's The IT Crowd.
The channel has acquired the rights to series one and two, which have already aired in the UK, and also series three, on which production is expected to begin shortly.
In 2006, NBC gave a pilot order for an American version of the show - which went on to become one of Channel 4's highest-rated sitcoms of 2007 - but although a pilot was filmed and a six episode order made, the network has chosen to put the project on hold.
IFC plans to give the original UK version its US debut on September 29.
Distributor FremantleMedia Enterprises, which also announced the acquisition by IFC of Modern Toss, and Cartoon Network spinoff Adult Swim's licensing of BBC Two's Look Around You, said that there is a growing trend for Britcoms to air on American cable channels.
Lisa Honig, Fremantle's vice president of programme distribution in North America, said: "We are finding there is an increasing appetite for British comedy shows in the US as cable channels acknowledge the growing appeal with young American audiences."
