ABC confirms 'Maid' TV adaptation

ABC has revealed plans for a small screen adaptation of Jennifer Lopez's Maid In Manhattan.

Chad Hodge is scripting a TV version of the romantic comedy, while Lopez, Joe Roth and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas are producing.

The 2002 movie followed the story of Maris Ventura (Lopez), a single mother who works as a maid in a Manhattan hotel, where she falls in love with a wealthy politician guest.

However, Hodge claims the series will differ from the movie because it will focus on the lead character's relationship with her co-workers.

"The show is a different maid in a different Manhattan," Hodge told The Hollywood Reporter.

"While the hotel's clientele is an obvious part of this world, I'm more interested in the downstairs part of Upstairs, Downstairs."

Hodge described Lopez's role in the project as "an integral part of the pilot and series".
