Simpson signs development deal with ABC

Pop and reality TV star Jessica Simpson has signed a deal with American television network ABC to star in a new scripted comedy series.
The AP reports that the new show will hit TV screens as part of ABC's new schedule in autumn 2004. The newswire agency quoted ABC Entertainment president Susan Lyne as saying:
"Jessica has infectious energy and unmistakable star quality. She also has a built-in fan base in both music and television, which is a great jumping-off point for us. We're looking forward to developing the ideal showcase for her considerable talents."
