NBC has announced that America's Got Talent is being renewed for a fourth season.
The competition's third run, which is currently airing in the US, has been the most-watched show of the summer. Network chiefs are particularly pleased with the programme's success in the key 'adults 18 to 49' demographic, in which it is currently placed third.
Craig Plestis, NBC's president of alternative programming, said: "The production team has stepped up their game creatively as proven by the strong ratings. This is the only show where truly unique and talented performers can achieve their ultimate dream."
Show creator Simon Cowell has credited last year's winner Terry Fator for boosting the programme's credibility.
"Everything changed last year on Got Talent when the guy who won - Terry Fator, this ventriloquist - went on to sign a $150 million contract with a Vegas casino," Cowell told The Futon Critic. "So, you know, the show actually did its job. It found a star and it's a competition worth winning because if it's not worth winning, I think the audience gets fed up with these shows."
Cowell also confirmed that he is pleased with the performance of the three judges - Sharon Osbourne, Piers Morgan and David Hasselhoff.
"I think they did a good job last year. You know, they believed in the guy who won," he said. "When we watch the shows back if I thought they were completely nuts then we wouldn't have them on the show. But, you know, they seem to be making pretty good decisions."
