The actress, who plays Carla Espinosa on the sitcom, announced that she and creator Bill Lawrence will depart Scrubs at the end of the eighth season.
The show's lead star Zach Braff will follow Reyes and Lawrence through the door when season eight wraps up next year.
Reyes indicated to the Globe that ABC, which picked up the long-running show from NBC earlier this year, could not afford to match the Scrubs stars' pay demands.
She said: "Their salaries exceed the budget... so do their ambitions. Mine do too."
Reyes confirmed that she would look for roles in film or on Broadway.
