"She just has an incredible charisma," Josh Friedman told Sy Fy Portal. "She was given no extra points for being Shirley Manson. In fact, she was probably given minus points by people who thought a singer couldn't do this."
Friedman also revealed that family connections first brought Manson to his attention. "I've known Shirley well for a couple years, and known her off and on for many years as she's a friend of my wife," he said.
"Personally, I've always enjoyed her and known her as a performer."
Manson makes her acting debut as steely executive Catherine Weaver in the forthcoming series of Sarah Connor, which begins on September 8 in the US.
