The medical drama, created by Shonda Rhimes, has maintained strong ratings in its second year in ABC's 9pm Wednesday slot.
The show recently returned to the air after seeing its first season shortened to nine episodes by the WGA strike.
Private Practice centres on Grey's character Dr. Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) after leaving Seattle Grace Hospital for Los Angeles.
