George Clooney to make 'ER' return?

Noah Wyle has claimed that George Clooney will return to ER to make a surprise appearance before the show ends next year.

Clooney's breakthrough role came in NBC's medical drama, where he played Dr Doug Ross from 1994 to 1999.

Wyle, soon to make a return to the show as Dr John Carter, told TV Guide: "From what I heard, George said, 'absolutely,' schedule permitting."

NBC declined to comment on the rumours, while Clooney's publicist denied the speculation, saying: "This story is not confirmed."

Original cast member Eriq La Salle, who agreed to direct a final season episode earlier in the week, will also reprise his role as Dr Peter Benton, according to Wyle.
