Stamos, who plays Dr. Tony Gates in the medical drama, told Extra: "I haven't told many people this. I was at lunch. I wasn't at lunch with him, but we were sitting and he said, 'You should go and do ER. He was the one who told me to go on ER."
The 45-year-old added that his experiences on the long-running NBC show have proved invaluable.
"I think I’ve learned more on this show than I have in my 25 years of being in the business," he explained. "It's been a real honour to be on this show."
Clooney's big acting break came when he was cast as Dr. Doug Ross in ER's first season.
