The actor confirmed rumours by admitting that the eighth season of the hit show will be his last.
Braff, who played the role of Dr. John 'JD' Doran, claimed that being part of the series had restricted his ability to try different acting roles.
"[I left Scrubs because] there's so much I want to do with my life. [It was] the most amazing experience of my life, but when you work on a television series, they own you," he told Yahoo News.
Entertainment network ABC has said that there is a "great opportunity" to continue with the show after the eighth series is aired in January.
