Based on Robert J. Sawyer's novel, the story follows the events that take place after everyone in the world falls unconscious for 2 minutes and 17 seconds and witnesses a vision of the future.
Fiennes will play an FBI agent who has overcome his alcohol addiction and is fighting to save his marriage. He and his partner, to be played by John Cho, attempt to solve the blackout mystery.
David Goyer will helm the pilot from a script he co-wrote with 24 and Star Trek veteran Brannon Braga. The pair will also serve as executive producers for the show, which ABC believes is an ideal companion for Lost.
