Scrubs star joins ABC's 'Middle'

Neil Flynn has signed up to star in ABC 's pilot The Middle.

Flynn, who plays Scrubs's enigmatic janitor, will star opposite Patricia Heaton in the comedy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show centres on a middle-class couple living in the Midwest who juggle financial and emotional problems with the strains of raising three children.

The Middle was initially developed in the 2006-07 season and a pilot was filmed with Ricki Lake in the mother role, though ABC chose not to take it to series.
