EchoStar, Turner in carriage dispute
Published Thursday, Apr 15 2004, 23:41 BST | By James Welsh
Subscribers to EchoStar's DISH Network digital satellite platform could lose CNN, CNN Headline News, Cartoon Network and TCM from their lineup due to a carriage dispute between the platform operator and Turner Broadcasting.
The two parties are understood to have been in talks since the end of 2003, when a carriage agreement expired. The agreement has thus far been renewed month-by-month as negotiations continue, but EchoStar is becoming increasingly vocal in issuing warnings to customers that the Turner stations could vanish.
Public carriage disputes involving EchoStar are nothing new. In March, Viacom channels were yanked from the platform after carriage negotiations failed. A new long-term deal was signed shortly afterwards.
