American cable channel TV Land has announced plans to stop showing regular programming during the upcoming finale of Friends on NBC.
Instead, viewers who tune to the station will be treated to seeing video of TV Land staff watching the show, occasionally telling viewers to tune over to NBC.
This isn't even a case of corporate synergy-gone-wild. TV Land, which re-runs classic TV shows, is part of the Viacom group, while NBC is a GE-owned enterprise.
TV Land's president, Larry W. Jones, explained: "The end of Friends is the end of an era in television history. Friends has proven itself to be a modern classic, and TV Land wants to be sure no viewers accidentally miss this historic event."
The finale of Friends will air on Thursday, May 6.
