Michelle Obama's hairstylist has signed a deal to make a reality TV show with producers 44 Blue, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Chicago's Johnny Wright styled the First Lady's hair for the Democratic National Convention, a future Vogue cover and other engagements. He has also worked with Vivica A. Fox, Rebecca Gayheart, Lauren London and Candace Bushnell.

The programme will either be pitched as a docusoap or a makeover series.

44 Blue's previous reality shows include Style Network's Split Ends and A&E's LA Gang Unit.

"There aren't many people of colour doing makeover and beauty shows," said 44 Blue exec Stephanie Drachkovitch. "We figured there's got to be somebody out there with a mainstream clientele, but brings a different point of view.

"We fell in love with him before we knew [about the Obama connection]. There's a lot of hairstylists out there who do celebrities, but they can't centre a show."
