John Wells told TV Guide that a rival channel to NBC has shown interest in the long-running medical show, which is due to conclude in April.
Ratings have been steady since it was announced that the current season of the show will be its last. Wells said that a move to ABC is unlikely, but added: "Never say never."
The programme's final episode is due to air on April 2 and will be preceded by a one-hour retrospective. Many of the show's former stars will return to the ward for cameo roles.
George Clooney, who is rumoured to be among the guest stars, is said to be filming his appearance this week.
