The Ocean's Thirteen actress will play a newly-divorced woman who develops a close bond with her ex-husband and 24-year-old son after the end of her marriage.
Shauna Cross, the writer behind Drew Barrymore's upcoming directorial debut Whip It!, is penning the untitled show.
"You have this character in her early 50s... whose life explodes unexpectedly," Cross said. "Her nerve and life experience allows her to tell the world to go screw itself, and they love her for it."
Barkin can next be seen in the Demi Moore film Happy Tears.
