Published Saturday, Jun 5 2004, 22:32 BST | By James Welsh
American broadcast networks switched away from sports coverage and other weekend programmes on Saturday afternoon when the White House confirmed that America's fortieth President, Ronald Reagan, had died at the age of 93.
Fox-affiliated stations, which at that time usually broadcast local programmes, switched to coverage provided by the Fox News Channel. On cable, CNN, FNC and MSNBC all offered coverage, as did current affairs channel C-SPAN.
