The actress quit her role as Dr. Susan Lewis on the NBC medical drama in 2005 after deciding to pursue new projects. She had returned to the programme in 2001 following her original 1994-1996 stint.
According to TV Guide, Stringfield has now agreed to reprise the part for one episode.
The star is following in the footsteps of other former cast members, including George Clooney, Noah Wyle and Julianna Margulies, who have already filmed appearances in the show's final run.
In her last appearance on-screen, Dr. Lewis decided to leave County General after being offered a new position at a hospital in Iowa.
