A rebooting of the 1990s primetime soap from The CW will be directed by Davis Guggenheim, The Hollywood Reporter says.
Guggenheim won a best documentary feature Oscar in 2007 for An Inconvenient Truth and has also directed episodes of Alias, 24 and NYPD Blue.
One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn had previously been announced as the writer of the pilot episode.
Heather Locklear had been suggested as a star of the new series, but Jennie Garth said she would not be joining the show.
Star of the relaunched 90210 Ryan Eggold recently told DS that talk of a return of Melrose Place was "lazy" and "depressing", with Hollywood seemingly "out of ideas".
