The talkshow is reportedly expected to relocate to the Rich Forum Theater in Stamford this summer if negotiations are finalised.
However, its planned new home is next to one of the region's largest and oldest Catholic churches and the pastor has warned that he will launch a legal bid to block the move, says AP.
Rev. Stephen DiGiovanni of St. John's Catholic Church said parishioners were less than pleased at the prospect. "They didn't think this was the right place for it," he said, adding: "I'm not very thrilled about it.
"Springer is making millions on other peoples's misery and stereotypes."
Local officials believe that between 150 and 200 jobs will be created under the plan, which would also see the shows Maury and The Steve Wilkos Show filmed at the studios. A further $3 million (£2.13 million) would be spent on upgrading local infrastructure.
